Children's Social Forum & Child Care

The USSF welcomes children under 12 years old to participate in the Children's Social Forum and Child Care Center!

We know children have their own ideas about the world, and we honor them as an integral part of this political process. The USSF is also committed to ensuring that parents can participate in workshops, events, and more knowing that their children are fully incorporated into the Social Forum process in meaningful ways. Both sites will be safely set up in Cobo Hall with convenient access for parents/guardians. Youth ages 13 & 14 are invited to volunteer as aides in the childcare space.

Children's Social Forum: "Listen to the Children"

We know children have their own ideas about the world, and we honor them as an integral part of this political process. The USSF is also committed to ensuring that parents can participate across workshops, events, and more knowing that their children are fully incorporated into the Social Forum process in meaningful ways.

On Tuesday from 9am – 1:30pm; and Wednesday – Saturday from 9am – 6pm, we will engage children deeply in the content of the forum and in their own creative and fun process. Children ages 5 – 12 are invited to participate in the Children’s Social Forum!

The theme for the Children's Social Forum will be "Listen to the Children." We will create a safe place where children are learning and creating art with a variety of Detroit’s children's organizations. Children will be guided through their own social forum experience by teachers and artists in Cobo Hall, overlooking the Detroit River. What can children expect to experience at the Children’s Social Forum? Offerings include: a dress-up space with clothes on a rack, wigs and shoes; art tables and supplies; storytellers and hand held musical instruments, drums and rattles; large and small puppets, paper maché animals and masks; a low stage for musicians, dancers and theatrical performances; and comfort and nap stations. In this space, children ages 5-12 will learn about Detroit, produce art that tells the stories of their families and craft signs after they learn about the power of solidarity. They will also learn and practice the song, “Listen to the Children” as they envision a new world.

Daily CSF Schedule
The Children’s Social Forum will be open Tuesday from 9am – 1:30pm, and Wednesday – Saturday from 9am – 6pm. There will be a field trip to the beautiful Belle Isle on Friday where the children can engage in outdoor activities and a picnic lunch.
