We're looking for engaged *Volunteers* to fill positions with our Communications-Media Teams. This is an excellent way to plug into the nuts and bolts of the US Social Forum, get to know how the USSF is being constructed from the ground up, and interact with talented social change activists across the country.
Social Media Coordinators. Be a part of the online “street team” of the USSF. Build online community; manage profiles on social networking sites, outreach to friends & communities, research solutions to social media problems, promote USSF messaging, resources & events, moderate discussion lists.
Outreach Liaisons. Reach out to specific sectors looking for new partners for personal contact to the USSF. Coordinate sector specific outreach (by geography, issue, demographics and profession.)
Writers/Journalists Network: Write op-eds, news analysis, poems, opinion pieces, stories, announcements, blogs for general audience news sources to help educate the wider U.S. public about the USSF, the people it involves, and/or the issues it addresses. Also, write for specialized publications targeting particular audiences of activists, community groups, professionals, or other publics who should know about the USSF and/or who can contribute to the work of the USSF. Speak to journalists and/or activists in participants' own communities about the USSF and encourage local participation in and/or media coverage of the forum. Be creative in using social media to spread the word about the USSF.
Online Fundraisers. If you have experience as a staff person for an organization that uses fundraising platforms, a CRM to build lists, raise low dollar online donations, mobilize supporters and achieve mission objectives, we need you
Google Adsense Coordinators. Manage purchase of Google Adsense ads, monitor and improve results.
Multimedia Production Team. Organize artists, edit and tag existing and newly produced video related to the USSF.
Email, Web and Data Production Team. USSF uses Drupal CiviCRM – help us with html layout, customized landing pages, microsite development and integration with social media.
Writers for Email & Web. Write attention grabbing subject lines, concise email copy, and descriptive blog blurbs. Help manage portions of website to keep content fresh.
Graphic designers. We have a constant need for graphics to illustrate web content and emails, social media sites, and for specific projects.
Administrative Support. Coordinate task lists, internal communications, organizational assignments, scheduling, and office support for the National Communications Coordinators.
These positions require 5-20 hours/week, for a minimum of 6 weeks at a time. We are able to accommodate college students and graduates seeking internship credit.
Who Should Apply?
You do not have to be attending the USSF in person to play an important role. Women, people of color, LGBTQI activists and members of grassroots community groups are especially encouraged to apply, as are college aged individuals in or out of school, the under- and unemployed, retirees and those seeing a higher degree of involvement in the movement for progressive social change.
Some of these positions will place experienced individuals who have expertise in a particular field. Others are open to folks of any age interested in developing the appropriate skills. Training will be provided as needed.
